This is an abstract monoprint created using the Gelli Plate on paper.  I made stencils and masks and used bubble wrap for stamping and lifting.  Making these prints is fun, they flow, one idea leads to another, and they can have the freshness of sketches.

Gelatin Print: Seat of the Soul

This is another Gelatin print using the circle and lettered stencil.  I like experimenting with the random placement of lines and circles while contemplating where is the Seat of the Soul?  The local placement of a non-local spiritual concept is inherently paradoxical and that  makes me laugh.  It's here. No, it's here.  No, it's over there.

I've also been reading a painting retrospective on Wayne Thiebaud.  Here is a quote form one of his lectures,"People say painting's dead. Fine. It's dead for you. I don't care. Painting is alive for me.  Painting is life for me."  He painted traditionally and realistically during a time of abstract expressionism.  He was dedicated to his painting voice and maybe found the seat of his soul.

Grid Painting 473 with Flower of Life

It's been entertaining to do these grid paintings.  They have been lovely to paint and the structure lends itself some ease.  An essay on abstractcritical.com  led me to the written work of Rosalind Krauss.  She wrote that a "Grid sustained itself so relentlessly while at the same time being impervious to change." "Development is what the grid resists."

As a psychotherapist, artist and a person constantly seeking development, the structure has given me a welcomed platform.

Watercolor Circles

This watercolor is 8"x10" and is composed by using the fluid nature of watercolor and stencils.

I like to think of these as sketches. This was done on a homemade gelatin plate with tempera paints,  hand made stencils and a sketch book from childhood.

It has been awhile since posting due to technical difficulties. :) Also, I forgot to photograph this before framing, but hopefully there will be more posts to follow.  This is a 20"x30" watercolor ready for the 40 Arts West abstract show.

Circles in Fields, III

It's nice to create using the grid again.  This is a 6"x8"1/2 watercolor painting using reds, yellows and greens and the colors were suggested by my friend, K. The white is actually left over latex wall paint which goes on heavy and spatters well.  I've been looking at composition ideas and experimented with the Fibonacci spiral with the center of the spiral being the blue dot.
