Winter Oranges

In this 8"x12" watercolor I layered washes and splattered paint. It seems like vibrant, warm colors are useful in winter.  It was also inspired by the Solstice.

Kite Tetrad #2

This is an exercise working with the colors: red orange, yellow green, blue green and blue violet on the color wheel. When you draw lines connecting the four colors on the wheel, it forms a kite.

Arches Lone Tree

The work has stalled out, but I am searching for answers to problems. New favorite book: Watercolor Mixing: the 12-Hue Method by Christopher Willard.

Bob

This one was dubbed "Bob."

Into the Light

Donkey: "Don't die, Shrek. And if you see any long tunnels, stay away from the light." "But mama that's where the fun is." Bruce Springsteen

This is a big painting by my standards and is 3' X 3'.

River Squiggle

This was also influence by Aboriginal Art which I think is some of the loveliest art on the planet.

Paint splattering and full circles. What could be more fun?

Butterfly Motion

Influenced by Aboriginal art of Australia and the woodblock prints of the 60's and 70's, I wanted to capture energy in motion. I'm also inspired by the idea that everything is vibration.

From Center

If I follow my intincts they eminate from the core and that is what inspired this painting. It was also a time of integration and ideas burting forth.

Beginnings

Since June zipped by without the completion of the current painting, I decided to post some oldies. These are from an abstract series done in 2004 where I began to paint from intuition. It dawned on me later that this was a personal mandala and the embryotic center represented a new way of creating.

Some View

Now I'm trying to balance composition and value while using Greg Albert's #1 rule of composition: Never make any 2 intervals the same. Easy to remember.

PuckerPass II

This is another watercolor attempt. I find it interesting to switch back and forth between the two mediums and then discover the differences when viewed online.

On Pucker Pass I

This is a spectacular region of the world. Once again the views up the road to Pucker Pass were phenomenal.

Fiery Furnace I

This is the view of the Fiery Furnace from the parking lot. Inside it's a maze of rock fins and around every corner a new view.

Into the light of day

Welcome to my blog! All my life the compulsion to create has been a strong one. Now that there are piles of artwork in the basement, it's time that they see the light of day. I'm also allowing a new philosophy to soften my internal critic. It's simple, but works.

1. "Just Paint."
2. Stay connected to what makes me feel joyful about creating, then "just paint."
3. It's all easier said than done then "just paint."
4. Let go of the current painting and start another one.

This series is inspired by the spectacular vistas of Canyonlands and Arches National Park in Utah. I hope you enjoy! Karen
